Let Matheson Handle Your Pre-Season Safety Checks!
Did you know that April 23 is National Take a Chance Day? It is! So, tell us: What are you willing to take a chance on? Finding love? Buying your first house or upgrading? Asking for that promotion? Changing careers?
Well, here’s one thing your friends at Matheson Heating, Air & Plumbing urge you to never take a chance on: your air conditioner—especially now. It may seem like a long way off, but we’re heading into the summer season soon. When the blistering heat hits, you don’t want an AC system that is unfit or on the verge of a breakdown. To prevent that from happening, you should schedule air conditioning maintenance in your South Lyon or nearby home.
Here are the four most common problems that can occur with your air conditioner if you fail to give it the attention it deserves:
- A Dirty Filter: Your system’s air filter can get clogged with dust, dirt, pollen, mold and other debris. A clogged filter causes your system to work harder, which wastes energy and shortens the life of your unit. A dirty filter is also a sure-fire way to spread pollutants throughout your indoor air, which can adversely impact your health, especially if you have asthma or allergies. Solution? Change your filter every three months.
- Low Refrigerant: In the summer, your system’s refrigerant gives off heat as it works to cool your indoor space. When the refrigerant is low due to a leak or poor installation, your home will not reach the desired temperature and your monthly energy bills will climb. If you notice wet spots around the hose connections or oily streaks around the compressor, your system could have a leak. Keep this in mind, too: It’s not unusual for older units to leak a few ounces of refrigerant each year. Part of our routine maintenance involves replacing this refrigerant when needed.
- Thermostat Issues: If your thermostat is not working properly, it could be a wiring problem or outdated batteries. Excess dust or dirt can also affect its smooth operation. Plus, your thermostat may not function properly if it’s located on a sunny wall or too close to the air register, your oven or a drafty window or door.
- Dirty or Leaky Ducts: Over time, dust, dirt, pollen, mold and other gunk builds up in your ductwork. When that happens, your HVAC system must work harder, causing your energy costs to rise. Leaks or gaps in your ductwork are energy wasters, too, and can cause drafty or warm pockets in your home.
Matheson is the skilled and experienced pilot that will help you navigate through these problems and others to make sure your AC system is operating as efficiently and affordably as possible. We’re also aces when it comes to seamless AC installations in Bloomfield and exceptional AC repairs in White Lake.
